Even though I enjoyed this book very much, I prefer NOT to ready any more WWII stories or war stories in general. Life is hard enough now. I listened to the audiobook and the pace was deadly slow. It's hard to imagine how one would act under similar circumstances, join the resistance, act as Werner did letting his friend be tortured to the extreme (so as to become brain damaged). What horrible animals humans are, and continue to be. It is exceedingly hard to "do the right thing," versus doing the easy thing. Being brave is hard, and Marie-Laure was very brave. Lastly do we know for a fact that Werner left the Sea of Flames, and where? in the water? I for one appreciated the rare closure provided by the author's flashing forward at the end of the book.
