This book was not at all what I expected. Way depressing. However I am sure that this kind of caste behavior continues in India and elsewhere in the world today. It does give insight into "deep poverty" which we also have in Philadelphia. I was sure she was going to drown herself in the ocean at the very end. Surprising she did not so yes the ending was "hopeful." Women are women's worst enemies for sure. John Irving's Circus book also features Parsis I believe. I love India so this was "another" view of it I have not witnessed.
